B-lymphocyte induced maturation protein (BLIMP-1) is a 100 kDa transcriptional repressor containing 1 DET domain and 4 C2H2-type zinc fingers. In the nucleus, BLIMP-1 is known to bind specifically with the Beta-interferon gene positive regulatory domain I (PRDI), and to interact with PRMT5. During B-cell differentiation, BLIMP-1 actively represses the transcription of the gene, c-myc, through binding its promoter and has been deemed a "master regulator" for terminal B-cell differentiation, as it is able to initiate the BCL1 cell developmental cascade.
