RAD50-interacting protein 1 (UniProt Q6NUQ1; also known as HsRINT-1, RINT-1, RAD50 interactor 1) is encoded by the RINT1 gene (Gene ID 60561) in human. Originally identified and named as a RAD50-interacting partner by a yeast two-hybrid screening, RINT1 is involved in the G2/M checkpoint, maintenance of centrosome integrity, telomere elongation, Golgi apparatus, Golgi-ER vesicular trafficking and Cis- and Trans-Golgi homeostasis. Rint1 homozygous deletion in mice causes early embryonic lethality, while Rint1 heterozygotes are predisposed to multiple tumor formation. Likewise, rare RINT1 mutations are identified to be associated with intermediate levels of breast cancer risk in human.
