IL-8 is secreted by several types of cells, including fibroblasts, monocytes, macrophages, and endothelial cells, in response to inflammatory stimuli. It is a chemoattractant and activator for neutrophils, directing them from peripheral blood to the site of inflammation. It is also a potent angiogenic factor promoting endothelial and epithelial migration and proliferation in several cancers and is associated with metastasis.
