CH25H , also known as Cholesterol 25-hydroxylase, Cholesterol 25-monooxygenase, h25OH, and encoded by the gene name CH25H, is a member of the sterol desaturase family. CH25H catalyzes the formation of 25-hydroxycholesterol from cholesterol, which in turn leads to repression of the cholesterol biosynthetic enzymes. Recent studies have shown that CH25H may play an important role in regulating lipid metabolism by synthesizing a corepressor that blocks sterol regulatory element binding protein (SREBP) processing. Other studies have also indicated that in testis, production of 25-hydroxycholesterol may play a role in Leydig cell differentiation.
