Myomesin-2 (UniProt: P54296; also known as 165 kDa connectin-associated protein, 165 kDa titin-associated protein, M-protein, Myomesin family member 2) is encoded by the MYOM2 gene (Gene ID: 9172) in human. Myomesin-2 is a major component of the vertebrate myofibrillar M band and is mainly expressed in fast fibers. It binds myosin, titin, and light meromyosin in a dose-dependent manner. Its primary function is to upkeep M-band filament lattice. It has a unique N-terminal domain followed by 12 repeat domains with strong homology to either fibronectin type III or immunoglobulin C2 domains. Myomesin-2 is shown to interact with dysferlin, a protein that aids in repairing the sarcolemma when it is damaged or torn due to muscle strain and assists in myofibril stability.
