Serpin F2, also known as Alpha-2-antiplasmin Alpha-2-AP, Alpha-2-plasmin inhibitor, Alpha-2-PI, and encoded by the gene name SERPINF2, AAP, or PLI, is a member of the Serpin family. Serpin F2 is a serine protease inhibitor. As an inhibitor, the major targets of Serpin F2 are plasmin and trypsin, but it also inactivates matriptase-3/TMPRSS7 and chymotrypsin. Serpin F2 forms protease inhibiting heterodimer with TMPRSS7. Serpin F2 is expressed by the liver and secreted in plasma. Mutations in Serpin F2 have been associated with Alpha-2-plasmin inhibitor deficiency (APLID), an autosomal recessive disorder resulting in severe hemorrhagic diathesis.
