GHRHR is the receptor for growth hormone release hormone (GRF, GHRF). GHRF is first produced between 18 and 29 weeks of gestation and is responsible for the production of growth hormone (GH), and GH is required for proper normal postnatal growth, bone growth, regulatory effects on protein, carbohydrate, and lipid metabolism. GHRHR is localized on cells particularly in the anterior pituitary and mutations in this gene have been associated with growth hormone deficiency, or Dwarfism of Sindh. GHRHR is localized on membranes, both plasma and nuclear membranes, and its translocation acts as a first step in the cellular signals leading to exocytotic GH secretion in the anterior pituitary.
