Blood dendritic cell antigen 2 (BDCA-2;CD303) is a type II C-type lectin that is expressed on plasmacytoid dendritic cells (PDC), a subset of immature dendritic cells found in lymphoid and nonlymphoid tissues. BDCA-2 is critically involved in both adaptive and innate immune responses. It is involved in the recognition and internalization of pathogens, but inhibits TLR6 signaling and INF-1 production, in PDC cells, possibly through signaling of the BCR-like signalosome. PDC signaling has been linked to multiple inflammatory diseases such as granulomatous lymphadenitis.
